Rookie Firefighter of the Year 2003 {Jack Davis ~ Artemus Fire Department}
Jack Davis of Artemus Fire Department was awarded for 2003 Rookie Firefighter of the Year several reasons.  Even though Jack has been a member of our department for a short
time (1 Year) he has become a model Firefighter.  He is very proud of being a firefighter and takes that responsibility very seriously.  He strives to
sharpen his skills as well as working for the betterment of our department.
Jack attended fire schools at Lexington, London, Bell County, as well as numerous local classes.  Jack plays a very important role in our "Santa"
visit program as he spent many hours portraying Santa at homes.
Jack recently spent over 40 hours doing repair work on one our pumpers when it malfunctioned.
When another pumper was sent to Louisville for pump testing and repairs, Jack arranged for the truck to be transported and traveled to Louisville to
pick up the truck when repairs were made.
In a recent smoke detector campaign, Jack installed 82 detectors in local homes.  He is now our maintenance officer for our department.  His duties
require him to ensure all our apparatus are in good order and ready to respond to all calls.  He does an excellent job in this capacity.  Jack's participation in educational activities, fund raising, public relations and
safety programs deserve him the distinguished honor of being the Rookie Firefighter for 2003.

Most Improved Fire Department {Small Division}

Keavy Fire Department received the 2003 Most Improved Medium Division protecting 501 - 1000 Structures for being awarded F.E.M.A. grants for two consecutive years.  The first being $61,667 for the replacement of the Personal Protective Equipment for all Firefighters.
The second awarded $14,636 for training and education.
The department has purchased the newest addition to their fleet of fire fighting apparatus.  Pumper #1 will replace an older fire truck and will primarily be used on grass and woods fires.  The fire truck is a Ford F-450 Super Duty Truck and has a 400 gallon poly tank.
The department has also purchased a new hose tester.  The hose tester purchased will be used instead of using the fire apparatus for testing fire hose.  This will keep from damaging the very expensive pump on the apparatus.  Also, the hose tester pump is so much quieter than running the pump up on the apparatus.  Plus utilizing the hose tester to do the testing leaves the apparatus in service for calls when needed.
Keavy Fire Department  has also attended training on F-500 a special extinguishing agent.
Keavy Fire Department publishes a newsletter courtesy of Tony Anders a Firefighter with the department and currently issues of the newsletter is available on S.K.F.A.'s website for everyone to view.
